Alain Locke 8th-Grader Honored at 2018 Illinois Charter Schools Conference

One of Alain Locke Charter School’s very own students was honored on Thursday at a special awards ceremony.

Alain Locke student Nylah was recognized as an “Outstanding 8th Grader” at the 2018 Illinois Charter Schools Conference. Nylah was one of just two Chicago charter school students to be honored as an Outstanding 8th Grader at the event, which was held at the Swisshotel in the Lakeshore East neighborhood.

The Outstanding 8th Grader award comes with a scholarship, made possible by Invest for Kids, a Chicago-based charitable organization that works to provide financial support for children in the city.

Nylah’s recognition at the event, which was organized by the Illinois Network of Charter Schools, is a follow-up to yet another notable accomplishment earlier this year.

She and three other Alain Locke students brought home Red Ribbon awards from the Illinois History Day competition as seventh-graders in May.

Way to go, Nylah!
