On Friday, our All-Stars had the BEST seats in the house for an outstanding jazz concert in the gym at school.
As part of the very special “Let Freedom Swing” performance, which was put on by the Jazz Institute of Chicago and Jazz at Lincoln Center, our All-Stars had the incredible experience of watching world-renowned trumpeter and educator Pharez Whitted lead the Let Freedom Swing Quintet.
“Let Freedom Swing,” which was inspired by conversations between form U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, touched on three important topics: jazz democracy; jazz and the great migration; and jazz and civil rights. We’re so glad our All-Stars had the opportunity to enjoy this positive, empowering, and uplifting program that helped serve as a reminder of the immense value and potential to effect meaningful change in the world that exists within all of us.
Special thanks to Communities in Schools and our music instructor, Ms. Belluomini, for making this wonderful day possible. See all of the pictures from the “Let Freedom Swing” jazz concert below.
