On February 25th, Alain Locke had a school-wide event to celebrate Chicago’s own during African American History Month. Each grade at the school showed off their talents by doing a performance saluting prominent Chicago African Americans like President Obama, Thomas Dorsey, Oprah Winfrey, Louis Armstrong, the Harlem Globetrotters and even the TV show Soul Train. The day was full of energy, fun and information, topped off by sounding great, too. That’s because the Alain Locke Charter School band played a tribute to Sam Cooke. It goes to show just how talented and dedicated Alain Locke students are when it comes to honoring those who are an important part of Chicago history and beyond.
