Dear Parents/Guardians,

Over a year and a half ago, students across the country started a school year unlike any seen before. We are proud of our All-Stars and families who showed such perseverance and grit in a very challenging year. And we thank our amazing team at Alain Locke for their outstanding dedication, flexibility, talents, and innovation during this unprecedented time.  Schools across the world, throughout the country, and here at Alain Locke have successfully demonstrated that we can safely reopen classrooms with the right protocols in place.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health's (IDPH) guidance for schools recognizes the fundamental importance of in-person learning for the wellbeing of students, families, and communities. Therefore, Alain Locke and all Chicago Public Schools will prioritize full-time access to in-person learning for all students while implementing the public health requirements recommended for schools.

Beginning with the 2021-22 school year, All Illinois schools will resume fully in-person learning for all student attendance days. Alain Locke will be welcoming all students back for full-time, in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year starting August 13, 2021. At this time all Illinois schools will require that masks/cloth face coverings be worn indoors by everyone, regardless of vaccination status, except for while eating or drinking. This universal masking policy applies to all students, all staff, and all visitors to the school building. Face coverings may be removed for outdoor activities, such as recess and gym.

We have no doubt that children learn best – and educators teach best – when they are physically present together, in the same space. We will continue to do everything we can to ensure that happens safely. We look forward to welcoming all of our students back to the school building on August 13th!
