Alain Locke Students Advance to Statewide Illinois History Day Competition

After Alain Locke’s recent state history fair, several students are now advancing to the statewide Illinois History Day competition.

The number of students advancing to the statewide competition marks an increase of more than twice as much as in previous years. Those students are:

Research Papers

  • D’Shanti: “Highway Construction in the 1950s: The Helping and Hindering of Chicago’s Highway”
  • Michelle: “The Tragedy and Triumph of Mary Todd Lincoln: The First Lady of Lunacy”
  • Nylah: “The Bells of the Ball Game: The All American Girls Professional Baseball League”

Exhibit

  • J’Nai and Malia: “Race and Womanhood”

Documentary

  • Tiona and Arai: “A League of Their Own: All American Girls Professional Baseball League”

The statewide competition is scheduled for May 2 in Springfield. Good luck to all students competing!
