Alain Locke Charter Academy World Studies Program 2010

One of the most important components of the Alain Locke experience based learning curriculum is the World Studies Program which culminates in an upper grade trip to countries that the students have been studying. Students earn the opportunity to learn first hand about the culture, language, and history of their global neighbors.

The Alain Locke curriculum combines academic rigor and experience based learning to produce students who are globally competitive. Growing from single digit percentages on standardized tests to posting the most improved standardized test scores of any Chicago Public School from 2002-2005, currently, over 80% of Alain Locke students meet or exceed state standards.

Alain Locke is one of seven schools nation-wide highlighted in a United States Department of Education Publication for "Closing the Achievement Gap"and was recently featured in a United States Department of Education Broadcast which introduced Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan and President Obama's education agenda.

Alain Locke students have traveled to Ghana, Italy and Greece. This year, the World Studies Program Scholars will travel to England and France. One hundred percent of the funds for this life changing experience will be raised through donations.
