Alain Locke Charter School, named for the first African-American Rhodes Scholar,Alain Locke, models "Absolute Excellence" in Chicago's historically underserved East Garfield Park neighborhood. Alain LockeCharter School uses a learner-centered approach with a focus on preparing students for a successful college experience. The goal of Alain Locke is to produce students who are globally competitive. Alain Locke student achievement has been recognized nationally as among the best in the country.

Our continuum of support provides education opportunities for students and families from early childhood through adulthood. Children can begin their Alain Locke education at age 15 months through our Family Literacy Center. At age three, children join the Alain Locke pre-school program and continue in the elementary program through eighth grade. Alain Locke’s intensive high school preparation program has helped Alain Locke graduates continue on to Chicago’s best selective enrollment, Catholic and charter high schools. Alain Locke provides graduates with higher education support in high school and college.

We expose our students to a global education with a schoolwide program of field experiences that go beyond the neighborhood to the world class cultural and scientific institutions in Chicago and beyond. Culminating in 7th and 8th grade with the Alain Locke World Studies program, students engage in an international curriculum that includes field work in a foreign country. Through this program, Alain Locke develops globally competitive students who will be able to compete in high school, college, and the working world.
