Family Resource and Learning CenterEducation for the Whole Family… The Family Resource and Learning Center (FRLC) is designed to make parents an integral part of their children’s education. FRLC offers free education classes for adults and their children, ages birth to three. We know that children start learning from the moment they are born. We also know that parents are the first and most important teachers of their young children. To get their children off to a good start, parents need to be confident in their ability as partners in the education process. A family does best when both parents and children are reaching their educational goals.
The FRLC works together with Alain Locke to provide the best education possible. FRLC children and their parents are a welcome part of the Alain Locke family from infancy through 8th grade. FRLC provides a broad range of free instruction to help families reach their goals: Parenting Classes. Parents are a young child’s most important teacher. Our parenting classes give parents information about the physical and emotional needs of their child, the stages of child development, and how parents can work with their children to be sure they are ready to succeed in school. Parent-Child Classes. In these classes our teachers work with parents and children together on skills that will get children ready to read, write and do math. Families enjoy sharing books and games that teach important skills in an interesting way. It’s so much fun that children want to do it again and again. That’s the joy of learning! Adult Education classes. We offer classes designed for a wide range of skill levels, including basic literacy and math, GED preparation, job readiness skills and financial planning. All classes include computer education.
