About the Alain Locke Initiative
The Alain Locke Initiative is a not-for-profit education organization focused on closing the achievement gap by energizing urban schools with high-impact leaders.
Pat Ryan, Jr. is the founder of the three urban education programs which were united as The Alain Locke Initiative in 2010. After working as both an inner-city teacher and a gang narcotics police officer, Ryan formed Inner-City Teaching Corps (ICTC) in 1991, The Alain Locke Charter School with brother Rob Ryan in 1998, the ExSL New School Leadership Program in 2008 which advanced into what is now The Ryan Fellowship in 2011, all to address critical needs in education and find new high-impact approaches to solving those issues. In addition to his work with The Alain Locke Initiative, Ryan is the CEO and co-founder of INCISENT Technologies, ranked by Inc. Magazine as the #4 fastest growing software company in the U.S. in 2008. Ryan earned his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University, his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a JD cum laude from the Northwestern University School of Law. He resides in Chicago with his wife Lydia and three children.
